AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) — A late season winter storm is going to hit northeast New Mexico and the southern High Plains of west Texas Saturday, April 5th 2025. Numerous counties will be under a WINTER STORM WARNING where 4 to 8 inches of snow is expected to accumulate from Saturday morning into Saturday night. A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY is in effect for counties further east where 1 to 4 inches of snow is expected.

Rain is expected to turn to snow which could lead to hazardous travel conditions over the weekend. Friday: Intermittent RainStarting Friday morning, intermittent rain showers will spread across the region, bringing rain amounts of 0.1 to 0.75 inches.

As of Monday afternoon, the current forecast has winds strengthening to 30-40 mph from the southwest with gusts up to 60-70 mph being possible Tuesday afternoon into Tuesday night.

AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) — Sustained winds were measured to be as high as 60 mph at one point Friday afternoon in the Texas panhandle. This led to wind gusts of up to 84 mph and a multitude of hazards on the road. Semis in particular had a difficult time today. Storm Chaser, Blake Brown captured numerous semis tumbling in the winds in Amarillo, Texas. A full blown dust storm across the region also created numerous other wrecks and pile ups.
