    Last week in this space we talked about the fire danger, and how we have to take the "extreme" label seriously and avoid doing things that could spark a blaze. This includes things like not discarding your cigarette butts out car windows or just dropping them on the ground (first, the littering is gross, second, if there's dry grass or bushes or bark mulch it's a serious risk).

    It's dry out there. Really dry. Yes, we're stating the obvious. And yet, some people still aren't taking it seriously enough. We've had a number of close calls of late when it comes to fires in the Cowichan Valley. The Sahtlam Fire Department is thanking two individuals who stopped at a brushfire along Highway 18 recently.

    A Ladysmith man disappeared a little more than a year ago, and RCMP are renewing their call for the public's help for information related to his disappearance. Christopher Massingham was last seen on June 27, 2023 when he was dropped off by a taxi in the area of Lawlor Road and 10th Street in Nanaimo. With no new leads, RCMP are hopeful someone will come forward with information. Massingham was 53 when he went missing. He would now be 54.
