Introduction Heart failure (HF) is a complex clinical syndrome that results from structural or functional impairment of the heart and leads to an impaired ability to fill and/or eject blood from the heart to meet the body's metabolic needs (1–3). HF is a common condition in the United States (US) with a lifetime risk of 20% in those age ≥40 years, which increases with advancing age and occurs more frequently in men than in women (1).
