    A trial of solar and green hydrogen energy at a Somerset project has saved Kier around 20,000 litres of diesel in four months, the contractor said. The Bridgwater Tidal Barrier scheme used a total of 16,047 kWh from the start of January to the end of April this year. 6,588 kWh came from solar power, 9,171 kWh from green hydrogen and 287 kWh from back-up batteries.

    A former employee of ISG Construction has been awarded over £27,000 after succeeding in her constructive unfair dismissal and sex discrimination case against the contractor. Employment Judge Andrew Midgley ruled that the claimant, identified only as Ms S Murphy in the judgment, was constructively unfairly dismissed and discriminated against because of her sex under section 26 of the Equality Act 2010.

    Demolition contractor Erith has completed an 18-month project to fully demolish the turbine hall at Sizewell A nuclear power station, marking a milestone in the ongoing decommissioning of the site. The football-pitch-sized hall has now been razed to the ground using innovative techniques, which allowed the project to be completed significantly faster than using traditional decommissioning and dismantling approaches.

    Over a third (35%) of Section 106 agreements took longer than 12 months to complete between 2022 and 2024, new research by the Home Builders Federation (HBF) shows. Local authorities have reported a 20% rise in Section 106 (S106) negotiation timelines, with housebuilders now waiting an average of 515 days to finalise infrastructure agreements. S106 agreements are legally binding planning obligations negotiated between a local planning authority and a developer.
