ECU is ranked fifth in North Carolina, 19th in the southeast and 58th nationally among public universities. Overall, ECU ranks 72nd out of 304 colleges nationwide, up from 110th last year. Eleven schools in North Carolina were included in the rankings.

    Published Oct 30, 2024 by Filed under: Frannie Tarkington’s very first call as an East Carolina University police officer a decade ago has fueled her passion for helping people navigate the physical, mental and emotional trauma of sexual assault. In recognition of her exceptional work, Tarkington has been named the UNC System Law Enforcement Officer of the Year. The award was presented Oct. 24 in a ceremony in Raleigh.

    East Carolina University senior Grace Scott has been surrounded by art from her earliest memories, so choosing a creative career path came naturally. Both of Scott’s parents graduated with fine arts degrees in ECU’s College of Art and Design. Her mother, Adrienne Dellinger, concentrated in ceramics, and her father, Greg Scott, in painting. Both are talented potters.

    Brynn Miller’s parents instilled in her the importance of respecting nature. They taught her botany and anatomy and routinely recycled, picked up litter and spent time outdoors at their home in Washington, North Carolina. “I spent as much time as possible outside in the woods or caring for our animals,” Miller said. “I wanted to work with my hands. My dream was to go to veterinarian school, but I was allergic to pets.
