AbstractSyllabi are widely used at higher education institutions in the United States to present students with course-related information before or at the beginning of a new class. The timing and versatility of these documents allows instructors to set the tone of a course with (or without) an eye towards inclusivity. This can be important for all students but affects, in particular, students from marginalized groups as they navigate STEM courses.

Denton Independent School District partnered with Texas High School Coaches Association last month to promote their Coaches vs. Overdose initiative. The program is in the early stages of development but is designed to help slow down the number of overdoses within the school and communities around Texas. The athletic department is getting together with coaches, students and community members to help educate everyone on the dangers, warning signs and actions that drugs can create.

I grew up in Paynesville, a town of roughly 1,500 people 40 miles southwest of Saint Cloud.
