“It’s because of my grandpa I’m here,” Alyannah Buhman said. “He was my biggest fan.”Buhman, now a Juris Doctor graduate of the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law at Arizona State University, said law school always felt out of reach. “Despite my fascination with the legal and justice system, I didn’t grow up with money. I was raised by a single mother for most of my life. I didn’t have the connections I thought I needed, and I’m a woman of color,” she said. “But he believed in me.

“As a woman in Iran, I faced injustice and inequality,” said Negar Nahid, a third-year JD student at the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law at Arizona State University. “Women lawyers in Iran cannot become judges and prosecutors, and this inequality has always resonated with me in every step of my journey as an immigrant woman in the United States.”Nahid made herself a promise: that one day, she would be someone who not only valued the rule of law but also stood firmly for equality and justice.

For McKenna Hunter, a third-year JD student at the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law at Arizona State University, the draw to law began early. “I loved to learn and solve puzzles, and law was the only profession where there is an intersection of almost every other subject matter, allowing me to learn new things each day in the profession,” he explained. Once in law school, he knew this was exactly where he wanted to be.
