From wildfires to earthquakes and even a tropical storm hitting the Coachella Valley, disasters can strike unexpectedly. I-Team investigator Jeff Stahl is digging deep into Emergency Operation Plans and finding that there is a lot of work to do. Nine cities have nine unique plans. The I-Team has been requesting and combing through the documents. Palm Desert and La Quinta approved their latest plans in 2010, and Palm Springs in 2012, but you'll find most cities are updating their plans right now.

Palm Springs Whitewater Wash roads closed due to low visibility

Gene Autry Trail and Indian Canyon Drive were both closed to traffic through the Whitewater Wash in and out of Palm Springs Wednesday morning. Palm Springs Police cited low visibility for the closures, as winds picked up, with blowing sand and dust in the wash areas. Vista Chino Drive was open through the wash. Other alternate routes into and out of Palm Springs include Ramon Road, Dinah Shore Drive, and Highway 111.

Many people work extra hours this week to ensure world-class golf course conditions at the Gallerie Classic in Rancho Mirage. Preparations for the Dinah Shore Tournament Course began earlier this month. "This is essentially from 4:30 in the morning to 6:00 at night during tournament week. CVUSD nears final decisions on massive staff layoffs to right-size the school district's underwater budget

The Coachella Valley Unified School District continues to grapple with its projected $60 million shortfall over the coming three years and the need for massive budget cuts to right-size the district. It's looking at cuts to hundreds of jobs in the district that serves approximately 16,500 students over its 22 campuses. Without those financial cuts, the district faces a state takeover.
