A think tank has unveiled ambitious plans for a high-speed train that would stop in every single European country. The proposed Starline service, put forward by 21st Europe in March, would operate like the London Tube and connect cities across the continent. Using existing and planned infrastructure, the train could reach speeds of up to 186 to 248mph. This means passengers could travel from Helsinki, Finland to Berlin, Germany in just over three hours, instead of the full day it currently takes.

A DECREE brought in overnight is making it harder for Brits to get a passport to a popular European country. On March 27, the Italian government introduced a decree overnight that makes it harder for Brits to claim Italian citizenship and get a passport. Known as Decree Law No.36/2025, getting Italian citizenship is now limited to only those who have a parent or grandparent born in Italy.

THE LARGEST outdoor freshwater pool in the UK will reopen this week for the summer season. Tooting Bec Lido, in London, will reopen on May 1 with two sessions a day for the summer season. Some visitors may be eligible for free tickets to the lido. For each session, the lido also offers 130 free tickets, which are available to eligible residents under Wandsworth's Access for All scheme. The scheme allows eligible residents 50 to 100 per cent discounts on everything from gym sessions to event tickets.

Erosion is currently causing a beach in Blackpool to disappear, and a new £30million investment plan is during its final consultation as part of work to protect the coastline. If the plans go ahead, there will be five new rock groynes built at Anchorsholme Beach.
