Abstract While the younger generation immerses itself in AI technologies, governmental bodies are at the initial stages of investigating the technology’s implications on our rights and how it will be best regulated. There is an opportunity to complement AI education with civic understanding. This work introduces the “AI and human rights” curriculum, which consists of seven lessons on human rights, how technology shapes our rights, and the Blueprint for an AI Bill of Rights.

Day of AI is a free, hands-on curriculum of lessons and activities designed to introduce K-12 students to artificial intelligence (AI) and how it shapes their lives. The Day of AI curriculum was developed by a team of researchers at MIT RAISE, and designed to be taught by educators with little or no technology background. These resources are free, Creative Commons-licensed, and made to be accessible to students of all backgrounds and abilities.

In November of 2022, a Silicon Valley company launched an invention that could complete students’ homework for them. Available only to subscribers at first, by the spring of 2023 OpenAI’s ChatGPT-3.5 was available to millions of students. As of January 2023, anyone with internet service can access the next generation, GPT-4, using Microsoft’s Bing, for free.
