John Edward Steadman was born on April 30, 1944, in Aledo, Illinois, to John E. and Evelyn Pauline (Feik) Steadman. He was a 1962 graduate of Aledo High School. Ed married Linda Link in 1965 in Woodhull, Illinois.

Gary Hampton, 86 of New Boston, passed away on Friday, May 9, 2025, at his home. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Tuesday, May 13, at the Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral & Cremation Services of Muscatine. Funeral services will be at 12 p.m., Tuesday, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Drury Reynolds Cemetery. Following the committal services at the cemetery, a time of food and fellowship will be held at the Eliza Community Center.

Dorothy V. McWhorter, 99 of Aledo, died Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at her home. A private family service will take place, followed by interment at Warren County Memorial Park Cemetery, Monmouth, IL. Memorials may be made in Dorothy’s honor to the Mercer County Senior Center. Speer Funeral Home, Aledo, is assisting the family. Dorothy Violet was born on July 23, 1925, to Ward Porter and Muriel (Young) Haynes in Ponemah, Illinois. She was a 1944 graduate of Alexis High School.

The Mercer County Health Department’s Peer Advisory Group is hosting a hygiene drive to help students at Mercer County High School. They are asking for donations of hygiene products, including shampoo, conditioner, soap, toothpaste, etc. – full size or travel size. Contributions will directly benefit those in need, with all donations going to the students. The hygiene drive will take place from April 1 through May 23.
