    Upon reaching the 50th anniversary of his first published writing, career newspaperman Dale Kovar of Winsted, Minnesota, has released a book featuring highlights from his work. Titled “Joseph Wore Tennis Shoes: Stories From Small Town Journalism,” the book follows Kovar’s career path at Minnesota weekly newspapers, most of which was spent in the Winsted area just west of the Twin Cities.

Tune out the misleading tv commercials, set aside the barrage of postcards, plug your ears to the sound bites, and ignore all the social media trolls. Political debates between candidates are meant to be open exchanges of ideas, policies, information, proposals, and even some back-and-forth criticism of each other’s positions.

    On a recent family vacation to Duluth, we visited the near-new Great Lakes Aquarium. The facility is a technological wonder. There are numerous attractive, interactive exhibits that appeal to all ages. At first appearance, the aquarium is a masterpiece of a modern-day museum. But beyond the first impression, the aquarium fails miserably when it comes to credibility. We found several prominent references in the displays to evolution and instances of the earth being millions of years old.

    So last week I told you it was time to go camping. Well, we did. You know what the weather was like over Labor Day weekend, right? Temperatures in the upper 90s. We went. We stayed. We sweated. We survived. And we enjoyed!On Monday, I was expecting Kwik Trip to call and ask if we would be needing more ice so they could plan their inventory.
