(WV News) — The top-seeded Grafton Bearcats softball team stormed through the Class AAA Region I, Section 2 tournament last week, posting three shutout victories to punch their ticket to regional play. Behind the electric arm and timely hitting of Bearcat softball’s all-time strikeout leader Lillie Crimm, Grafton (17-7-1) outscored its opponents 29-0 across the three-game stretch, defeating Elkins twice and Fairmont Senior once.

GRAFTON, W.Va. (WV News) — Despite never having picked up a golf club before joining the high school team as a freshman, Gavin Veltri quickly fell in love with the sport. Now, the Grafton senior is set to continue chasing that passion at the collegiate level, signing with nearby Fairmont State University. “My first year, I wasn’t even sure I was going to stick with it,” Veltri said. “But I kept playing, got better after a while and then finally became successful.

FARMINGTON, W.Va. (WV News) — A trio of Grafton Bearcat track athletes — Jaxson Hall, Scarlett Reid, and MJ Niggemyer — captured Big 10 Conference titles at the conference championship meet hosted by North Marion on Wednesday. Hall cemented his status as the area’s top sprinter, winning titles in both the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes, and Niggemyer took home the championship in the 800-meter run to highlight Grafton boys’ fourth-place finish with 70 points.

GRAFTON, W.Va. (WV News) — The Grafton baseball team battled to a 2-1 record over the past week bouncing back from a tough loss at Ripley with a regular season finale win over Tyler and a regional playoff opening home victory over Weir. The Bearcats struggled to generate offense in a 5-0 shutout loss to Ripley last Tuesday. Grafton was limited to just two hits, one each from Chace Kinsey and Cam Gray.
