A major rewilding landscape claiming to be the largest in the UK has registered as an independent charity. Affric Highlands hopes the move will enable it to restore nature in more than 200,000 hectares of the Scottish Highlands over the next 30 years. The charity is part of the Dutch non-profit organisation Rewilding Europe’s network of rewilding landscapes and is centred on Glen Affric, where native woodland restoration has been pioneered by Scottish charity Trees for Life since the 1990s.

Charities registered in Scotland will have to start submitting trustee information to the regulator as part of a move to promote transparency and strengthen public interest in the sector. The Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator will require the information under the Charities (Regulation and Administration) (Scotland) Act 2023, with trustees’ names appearing on the Scottish charity register from the end of this year.
