An aerial photograph of new cars at Fremantle Port tells the story of modern car colours — a sea of white, dotted with some grey/silver and black, with only occasional splashes of red or blue. Data from the WA Department of Transport backs up the stark visual. Monochromatic cars make up 82 per cent of all cars sold last financial year, up from 60 per cent in 2000. After those dominant tones, bursts of blue represent only 8 per cent, red is at 4.8 per cent, and green 1.8 per cent.

David Braund went to his GP in April with a small pimple-like mark on his forehead and a swollen lymph node. He was quickly diagnosed with stage four metastasised malignant melanoma. The skin cancer on his head had spread to his lymph nodes and liver. He was told without treatment he likely had less than 12 months to live. But he said the tide might be turning since he and another Perth patient became the first in Australia to participate in a ground-breaking study.

After 12 hours of driving, the U13 Terrace Mariners made their way to Merritt, British Columbia, for the Provincial Softball Tournament. From July 15-17, the team went a perfect 7-0, guiding their way to a gold medal. And after three days in hot weather rising to a high of 41 degrees, the team found a way to persevere through.
