    It was 1976 and Rob Baxter was a photography student at Central TAFE when he began combining his love of music with his camera. "My photos really are me walking around as a teenager and then in my early 20s … just documenting what I was into," Baxter told Mark Gibson on ABC Radio Perth. "I was transfixed by New Wave and punk, which happened — really started — about '76," he said. "Living in Perth and growing up in Perth, I didn't want to be here. I wanted to be in England. I wanted to be in America.

    As the WA government moves forward with its election commitment to run electric ferries on the Swan River, campaigners want the Matilda Bay terminal moved south. A $107 million plan to expand Perth's ferry services is moving ahead, amid a campaign to move the terminal serving the University of Western Australia 1 kilometre south, to Jojo's restaurant near Pelican Point in Nedlands.

    The WA Combat Sports Commission says it has received a preliminary application to hold a bare-knuckle fight in Perth, understood to be planned for July. The commission, part of the Department of Local Government, Sport and Creative Industries, has responsibility for the regulation of all so-called combat sports, including boxing, kickboxing and mixed martial arts.

    A gleaming blue, 7-metre-tall astronaut has been unveiled in Perth's CBD, taking pride of place outside Council House. Designed by US artist Brendan Murphy, the sculpture called Boonji Spaceman was a donation by the artist but City of Perth took on costs of transportation and installation, believed to be between $150,000–$250,000. The acquisition was championed by former Perth Lord Mayor Basil Zempilas who stepped down from the council in March after being elected to state parliament.
