BLACKSBURG — The topic of Budda Baker came up frequently when Sherrod Covil met with Sam Siefkes throughout the spring. Siefkes, who wrapped up his first spring as Virginia Tech’s defensive coordinator, spent two seasons with Baker with the Arizona Cardinals, and it didn’t take long for him to see several of Baker’s traits in Covil. “We have had those conversations where he’s compared me to him,” Covil said last week.

Virginia Tech offensive guard Bob Schick’s agents told 247Sports and On3 on Tuesday evening that he is entering the transfer portal and will look to play elsewhere for his final season of eligibility. Schick’s decision to enter the transfer portal means the Hokies will have a completely new-look offensive line for the upcoming season opener against South Carolina in Atlanta.

Virginia Tech redshirt sophomore defensive back Braylon Johnson announced he was entering the transfer portal Friday afternoon, becoming the sixth player to enter the portal in the 10-day spring window. Johnson wasn't the only defensive back with local ties to enter the transfer portal Friday. James Madison rising senior Chauncey Logan, a Salem High School graduate, retweeted a social media post that his agents told 247Sports that he intends to enter the transfer portal.

BLACKSBURG — Cam Seldon got behind the secondary and was all alone running a go route down the right sideline during the first quarter of last weekend’s Virginia Tech football spring game. The pass from Ayden Greene was perfectly thrown toward Seldon’s hands, and all he had to make sure the catch was secured and he wasn’t caught on his way to the end zone. The crowd in the west grandstands let out a roar the moment Greene unleashed the pass.

Salem High School graduates Jayden and Jorden McDonald, twin brothers who have spent the last four seasons on the Virginia Tech football program, are entering the transfer portal during the spring window. The McDonalds announced they entered the portal on social media Thursday afternoon. Jayden McDonald, a 6-foot-4, 232-pound linebacker, posted that he has two seasons of eligibility remaining.
