A Shipman man was fatally shot Friday and authorities are searching for a suspect wanted for murder, Nelson County Sheriff Mark Embrey said in a news release. Nelson sheriff's deputies responded to a residence in the Shipman area Friday for a report of an unresponsive male and upon arrival found him with a single gunshot wound to the chest, Embrey's release said.

BEDFORD — A special use permit to establish a sewage sludge use on a Bedford County farm where a storage shed for the spreading of biosolids is located received unanimous approval from county officials Monday. The board of supervisors on a 7-0 vote authorized the permit for Garden Heifers, Inc. and the existing 50-by-100-foot agricultural building on the 2800 block of Island Creek Road in Huddleston currently being used for sewage sludge storage.
