By Dan Arkans (@danarkans) -- To say the West Catholic boys basketball team is feeling prepared for a trip to the Giant Center on Saturday against District 7 champ South Allegheny with a PIAA 3A title on the line is the understatement of the season. The Burrs began the season hitting the road for six of their first seven contests. That included a trip to USciences, Cardinal O’Hara, Cristo Rey, Boys Latin (MD) and Archbishop Ryan.

Andrew Robinson (@ADRobinson3) –– PHILADELPHIA >> Maddie Burke’s jumper has always been picture-perfect. Amidst the chaos in the closing seconds of Sunday’s second round WBIT game at Saint Joseph’s, the ball found Burke and the fifth-year Villanova guard was ready. Catching the ball, setting her feet, loading up and firing, Burke’s eyes never left the rim as she held the follow-through for a few hop-steps up the court.

By Dan Arkans (@dan arkans) --- OREFIELD – Sophomore Ryan Carter has really done it all for Archbishop Wood this year. With her dominance not just for Wood, but on the AAU circuit she is currently ranked as the eighth best sophomore in the nation by ESPN. Carter was named first team PCL All-Catholic League, has already scored 1,000 points in her career, and was recently named to Jersey Mike’s Naismith High School All-America Team. As the accolades continue to pour in, so do the invites.

Josh Verlin (@jmverlin) –– Derrick Morton-Rivera was asleep on the Father Judge bus when he was awoken by the feeling of the tires going over the rumble stripes on the side of the Pennsylvania Turnpike. By the time he’d fully woken up, the bus was stopped on the shoulder, only about 15 minutes from Norristown High School and a PIAA 6A semifinal against Imhotep Charter — if they had a working ride. “The bus turned off, and they kept trying to get the bus to turn back on,” Morton-Rivera said.

By Dan Arkans (@dan arkans) — OREFIELD – The way the West Catholic boys basketball team goes after it in practice every day, no lead is too big, no situation too adverse. So the fact that the Burrs never led against Holy Cross until the final buzzer. Play through adversity. The fact that West Catholic only got to the foul line four times, compared to 13 from the Crusaders. Play through adversity.
