D.C.’s Audi Field has been selected as one of the venues to host the 2025 inaugural FIFA Club World Cup in two months. Standing on a stage at Audi Field, WTOP Senior Sports Director Emeritus Dave Johnson, FIFA President Gianni Infantino, D.C. United’s President of Business Operations Danita Johnson and FIFA Chief Football Officer Jill Ellis, unveiled the enormous FIFA Club World Cup 2025 trophy. Dave Johnson is also the longtime play-by-play voice of D.C. United.

When teachers and students return to class on Monday in Fairfax County, Virginia, they’ll notice something different in some schools. A new pilot program is starting to prevent guns and other weapons from entering campuses. Randomly selected high schools will have what’s called OpenGate weapons detectors installed. The OpenGate program will begin in one school per week, beginning Monday and run through the end of the year.

In the final minutes of Maryland’s recent legislative session last week, lawmakers passed a bill designating an official state cocktail, known affectionately as the “Orange Crush.”The drink was created 30 years ago at the Harborside Bar and Grill in Ocean City, when co-owner Chris Wall and some others on staff were mixing drinks and came up with this unique recipe. It’s equal parts triple sec and orange vodka, a freshly squeezed orange and a splash of Sprite.

A new report from the Department of Energy shows gasoline supplies will be more than adequate this summer and prices will continue to trend lower, even as driving is expected to increase. The DOE’s Energy Information Administration releases its Short Term Energy Outlook report each month. April’s report forecasts the U.S. retail price for regular-grade gasoline will average about $3.10 per gallon this summer, mostly because of expected lower crude oil prices.
