More than three decades ago, a group of women attending Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church began collecting food for those in need. This grassroots effort blossomed into Cypress Assistance Ministries, which distributed 1.2 million pounds of food to feed more than 36,000 people in 2024. “They started out by handing out boxes of macaroni and cheese out of the back seat of somebody’s car just trying to serve the neighbors,” CAM Executive Director Martha Burnes said.

Lone Star College-University Park’s artificial intelligence program is getting new equipment following a $12,000 donation from the Society of Information Management’s Houston chapter, according to an April 16 news release. SIM Houston, a group of local information technology industry leaders, presented the donation at its annual charity golf tournament April 11, officials said. The organization partnered with LSC-UP to help launch its AI lab last year.

Trader Joe’s could soon be opening in Cy-Fair’s Towne Lake neighborhood. What we knowA “Specialty Grocer” project was registered with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation in November. The filing states a 15,021-square-foot building would be constructed this year at 9715 Towne Lake Parkway, Cypress, for $2.5 million. Officials with Caldwell Companies, the developer behind Towne Lake, told Community Impact they could not confirm the tenant.

More than 1,500 multifamily housing units have opened in the last year in the six ZIP codes in Community Impact’s Spring/Klein communities with another 2,000 planned, according to a March 11 report from MRI ApartmentData. This includes traditional apartment complexes, senior living apartments and build-to-rent single-family homes. Most of this development is near the Grand Parkway in MRI ApartmentData’s Tomball/Spring submarket.
