The moment of bat-to-ball contact, Jayson Jones knew his ball had been launched into orbit. On the first pitch of his at-bat, Jones made a mighty swing on a hanging curveball from Dallas Baptist pitcher Ashton Branson, creating a hitter’s favorite sound. All present acted accordingly. The Fans. The home dugout. The visitor’s dugout, which was met with a dead silence.

The regionality of conference realignment has been put to the wayside. Holistic fluency within college athletics has been hindered due to its multitude of nuanced elements, extended travel being a notable one. But few sports have been affected more than college baseball. In the top of the fifth inning of Oklahoma State’s 9-1 weather-shortened win against Houston on Sunday at O’Brate Stadium, chaos erupted.

Spring games used to be a major facet of the college football offseason. Recently, however, that has gone to the wayside. Texas, Nebraska and Oklahoma, among other Power 4 programs, have cancelled their spring games in favor of player “combines” and open practices. Initially, Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy planned on following that trend and holding something similar.

Josh Holliday didn’t mince his words. Oklahoma State, in dire search of a midseason turnaround, needed a win in its series opener Friday against Houston. In the early part of July 2024, Kim Jones received a life-altering phone call. An Oklahoma area code appeared on her phone. When she answered with her husband, Tim, beside her, exhilaration ensued. This is Josh Holliday from Oklahoma State baseball. Is Jayson there? Kim’s son, Jayson Jones, was playing with the Falmouth Commodores in the Cape Cod summer baseball league in Massachusetts.

Can confirm #OkState 174/184-pounder Brayden Thompson has entered the transfer portal. David Taylor had mentioned preseason that Thompson was wrestling at 184 for OSU in practice. But given OSU’s recent transfer portal additions, Thompson will explore his options elsewhere.
