The latest college wrestling team rankings are out and Oklahoma State maintained its No. 3 ranking. On Tuesday afternoon, the NWCA released its latest top-25 poll. It featured six Big 12 programs, which is the second-most among all conferences behind the Big 10, which showcased nine. Fresh off a 34-3 thrashing of then fifth-ranked North Carolina State on Monday, the Cowboys (8-0) continue to look like an elite club.

A new week means a new set of college wrestling rankings. On Tuesday evening, the latest installment of the NWCA top-25 rankings were released – Oklahoma State (7-0) checked in at No. 3 following its 43-6 trashing of Big 12 foe Air Force last week. It marked the longest stretch of consecutive weeks in which the Cowboys were ranked in the top three (eight) since the 2018-19 season.

Troy Spratley rose to his feet, almost in unison with the Gallagher-Iba Arena crowd. Oklahoma State’s 125-pounder didn’t have to taunt his opponent. His 10-1 major decision against fourth-ranked Eddie Ventresca of Virginia Tech took care of that. Confetti rained down, commencing an arena-round celebration. “O-S-U” chants bellowed throughout as Spratley held up a pistol signal with both hands. An emphatic roar followed from Spratley before he jogged off the mat, toward OSU’s bench in between bouts.

The day of his introductory press conference, David Taylor stole the spotlight. He had yet to coach a college wrestling dual, yet knew what he wanted to say, and delivered his message to Oklahoma State fans effectively. The lingering thought of replacing an OSU and college wrestling legend in John Smith, who spent 33 years leading his alma mater, didn’t appear to bother him. Seldom did it even come up during his 32 minutes of speaking.
