    1stsOn a bright and warm spring day at Wargrave’s main square, the local derby between Wargrave 1st XI and Henley 1st XI delivered a thrilling contest that went down to the final over in the Home Counties Premier Cricket League Division 1. Henley, batting first, posted a competitive 252 for 9 in their full 50 overs. The innings was anchored by two superb half-centuries from Archie Carter (80) and Charlie Dunnett (82), who shared important partnerships that kept Henley ahead.

    Under another china-blue sky, Earley won the toss and batted on a dry but patchy pitch that played better than it looked. Hurley’s bowlers began with purpose and were supported with sound catching — Adnan Liaqat’s at gully to remove the left-handed Aravind Gururajan a particularly good example. When Ranvir Rana played back to a fullish ball from Adnan and was lbw, Earley were 41-3 and Hurley were on top.

    Dylan Bhundia with the Berks & Bucks Senior Cup--Maidenhead United Women are reshuffling their backroom staff after another successful season which brought two more pieces of silverware to the club. United’s first and development squads completed a Berks & Bucks double after the first team defeated Newport Pagnell Town 3-1 to lift the Senior Cup and the Development team beat Burghfield 14-0 to lift the Senior Trophy.

    Alkesh Vaja--Maidenhead & Bray captain Alkesh Vaja said he was ‘running up and down the boundary rope screaming’ after his team scored 11 off the last over to complete a memorable one-wicket win over Stoke Green 2nds on Saturday. Having fallen short in their first game of the season against Beaconsfield - losing by 72 runs after a woeful batting chase - Bray were determined to mark their return to TVL Division 2 cricket with an improved performance.

    Last year’s Julian Cup finalists, Boyne Hill and Maidenhead & Bray, made a winning return to the competition on Wednesday night in their opening group matches. Having defeated a Julian Cup representative XI last week, cup holders Boyne Hill kicked off their participation in this season’s tournament with a 61-run victory at Wooburn Narkovians.  Having been put into bat on losing the toss, the visitors made a mammoth 219-5 from their 15 overs.
