Fresno State announced Friday that Shakira will come to campus for a concert in a couple months. Shakira will visit Valley Children’s Stadium on Aug. 7 as part of her Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour. Driving the news: Shakira’s current world tour kicked off in Brazil in February and has drawn over 1.3 million people across 25 shows. The North American portion of her show launched last month with a sold-out crowd in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Horse racing will not return to The Big Fresno Fair this fall. The California Horse Racing Board voted 4-3 on Thursday to deny the fair’s request to host live horse racing in September and October. Driving the news: In January, the California Authority of Racing Fairs (CARF) decided not to submit future race meet applications for the summer in light of financial challenges and other obstacles, putting Frenso’s races in flux.

Fresno lawmakers are moving forward with a policy to allow developers to build housing on property zoned for offices, but it won’t be as clear, cut and dry for developers as initially proposed. The council decided against making it so developers have to simply meet a checklist of certain requirements to have their housing projects on office zones approved automatically. But the policy will still have to go through another vote in the future to finally become law.

Former California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger says immigrants should behave like guests in the United States. Schwarzenegger, an immigrant from Austria who was the governor of California from 2003 to 2011, appeared on The View this week and was asked about the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Raids (ICE) in California. What he’s saying: The View co-host Joy Behar asked Schwarzenegger if he has had a visceral reaction to images from the raids.

Parts of the Central Valley will likely be without power this weekend because of high winds in the forecast. Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) announced that it may turn off the power in over a dozen counties as part of its public safety shutoff protections. The big picture: PG&E sent out an alert to customers saying many counties will have areas that will require shutoffs through Saturday.
