President Donald Trump has promised to deport every illegal immigrant in the U.S. Such a step would devastate growers; California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s office has estimated 50% of California farmworkers are undocumented. But Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) might show up at your vineyard anyway. Before President Trump even took office, on January 7 and 8, the Border Patrol staged an immigration raid in Kern County during citrus harvest season.

Neither Donald Trump nor Joe Biden drinks alcohol. But Trump's family owns a winery in Virginia, and Biden does not. I'm a Democrat and I'm not going to pretend otherwise. If you are worried about Trump's impact on the nation and the world, I might agree with you. But the wine and spirits industry has reason to be both apprehensive AND optimistic about the change in the White House.

California minimum wage was $9 an hour in 2015. Now it is $16. Marshall Miller said his company, The Thornhill Companies of Santa Barbara County, has always paid above minimum wage. In 1980, the US government developed daily dietary guidelines for adults. According to the CDC, obesity in the US more than doubled over the next 28 years, from 15 percent of the adult population to 34 percent. Child obesity grew even more, from 5 to 17 percent. He’s from Alsace, France. and grew up around wine, but he was a software engineer. He developed traffic-monitoring software and sold it to the Weather Network. That gave him the money to buy, in 2020, Domaine Helena, a 215-acre vineyard and winery in Lake County near the Napa County border.

While the son of two migrant farmworkers was being celebrated in Napa Valley, down the coast, ICE was arresting farmworkers in two other wine regions. Napa Valley treats its farmworkers better than most regions; the results show in better quality wines. https://t.co/3DX4opcROb

Was just in downtown SF and some angry guy on a bicycle was screaming at a bus driver, "I already called the news! I did. I called the news!" Was tempted to walk up to him and say, "I'm the news. What's the story, morning glory?" But it is downtown SF, so I just walked on by.

Not watching the NBA playoff game right now so I do not understand how Denver could score only 8 points in a quarter. I covered some girls' high-school basketball tournaments very early in my career. Even girls' HS teams with losing records can usually manage 8 in a quarter.
