    Reform UK leader Nigel Farage is in Morpeth today to launch his party's campaign for the Northumberland Local Elections. The Clacton MP will meet Reform candidates at the Waterford Lodge before doing a walkabout on the high street. Mr Farage is the third national party leader to visit the county ahead of the election, after Kemi Badenoch of the Conservatives and Green Party co-leader Carla Denyer. It comes after Mr Farage made his Reform UK campaign speech in County Durham on Tuesday lunchtime.

    A man has been jailed after he threatened victims with a needle to coerce them into surrendering a wallet and a bag. Owen Trebell confronted his first victim on the morning of January 2 this year at a Northgate bus stop in Darlington, wielding a needle and demanding their wallet. The victim declined and fled. Shortly thereafter, Trebell accosted another individual on Bondgate, seizing her from behind and yanking at her backpack straps.

    The future of a popular pair of restaurants famed for their food and cocktails has been cast into doubt after the owners confirmed their current closure. Horticulture on Pilgrim Street, its sister site at Whitley Bay and Newcastle cocktail bar El Guapo have both been closed over the weekend, with bemused diners turning up for bookings only to find the doors firmly shut. Now, directors of the venues have confirmed they are currently closed as they take advice on the firm's future.

    A man suffered a serious injury after he was punched in the face in an alleged assault in Newcastle city centre. Police received a report of assault outside a premises on Clayton Street at around 2.30am on Thursday, February 20. It was reported that an argument had taken place between two men and the offender punched the victim in the face. The victim, in his 20s, fell to the ground and hit his head, sustaining a serious head injury which required hospital treatment.

    The driver of a BMW involved in a pursuit which landed seven police officers in hospital has been bailed, Northumbria Police have confirmed. The A1(M) was closed for several hours on Wednesday between Junction 73 Swalwell and Junction 75 Denton after a crash involving five police vehicles and a BMW M Sport. Police had attempted to stop a car in Whickham at around 2am due to concerns of how it was driven.
