The government is being criticised for announcing a delayed introduction of a vital law to protect social housing tenants from dangerous hazards. Awaab’s Law - named in tribute to two-year-old Awaab Ishak who died in December 2020 in a mould-infested flat in Rochdale owned by a housing association - was announced by the previous government two years ago. It proposed strict time limits on councils and housing associations carrying out repairs.
