    The deaths of a Salford mum and her four children in a house fire will be investigated more than seven years after a deliberate arson attack. An inquest date has been set after the devastating attack on the Pearson family’s home in Walkden. The blaze, which occurred in the early hours of December 11, 2017, claimed the lives of  Demi Pearson (15), Brandon Pearson (8), Lacie Pearson (7), and Lia Pearson (3).

    A Salford resident has expressed her opposition to the ‘assisted dying’ Bill currently being debated in Parliament. JoAnn Taylor, spoke at the recent protest organised by Disabled People Against Cuts (DPAC) outside Westminster. The 58-year-old shared her fears about the potential implications of the proposed legislation for disabled and vulnerable people. The ‘assisted dying’ Bill, otherwise known as Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill was introduced by Labour MP Kim Leadbeater.

    The Salford Youth Zone (SYZ) has confirmed that another two patrons will join the development plan, pledging to donate £100,000 each. Developers Muse and Assura plc have committed £200,000, as a part of a four-year partnership to support the development and operations of SYZ. The new patrons will join a growing list of pledged support that are aiming to make a lasting impact on the lives of children and young people in Salford.
