With colleague Nicholas Jacobs, he wrote “ The Rural Voter: The Politics of Place and the Disuniting of America,” which was based on polls of rural U.S. voters conducted between 2020 and 2022. It is no surprise that Vice President Kamala Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, have taken steps to engage the rural voters: They make up one-fifth of the electorate.
