    A high school student from Ocala has been awarded a National Merit Scholarship that she will use to attend a college or university this fall. On Wednesday, the National Merit Scholarship Corporation announced this year’s National Merit $2,500 Scholarship winners, who were chosen from a pool of more than 15,000 finalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program.     A 23-year-old Dunnellon man is facing multiple felony charges after he allegedly kidnapped his ex-girlfriend at gunpoint and repeatedly battered her. On Thursday, March 27, shortly after 12 p.m., Citrus County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a residence on N Windbreak Terrace in Dunnellon after receiving reports of a physical altercation involving a firearm, according to the arrest report.

On Wednesday, April 16, WalletHub revealed its list of the American cities with the most affordable rent. The Federal Reserve’s Consumer Price Index shows that over the past decade, the cost of rent has risen by more than 50% while wages haven’t increased at the same rate.

    A 43-year-old Marion County man was arrested on a battery charge after allegedly striking his stepfather in the head with the barrel of a shotgun during a physical altercation. On Tuesday, April 8, Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a local residence in reference to a domestic battery incident. When the deputies arrived, they observed a male victim who was over the age of 65 and “covered in blood,” according to the arrest report.
