    A Chinese restaurant has closed its popular location along State Road 200 in Ocala and is moving to a new establishment less than two miles away. Yummy House closed its location at 3500 SW College Road/SR 200 on Monday, June 16. The restaurant was situated next to the former location of A Simply Unforgettable Party Shop, which closed its doors last fall.

    AdventHealth Ocala cut the ribbon on a new, 57,000-square-foot medical office building near downtown, just over a year after breaking ground on the project. City and county officials gathered on Thursday, June 12, to cut the ribbon on the new facility. Located at 1219 S Pine Avenue, AdventHealth Ocala broke ground on the project in April 2024. It is situated just south of downtown Ocala, in front of the main AdventHealth Ocala facility (1500 SW 1st Avenue).

    Three people, including two Ocala residents, were arrested after they allegedly broke into a home in Okaloosa County, kidnapped a man, and attacked him. At around 2:45 a.m. on Monday, May 12, a “group of masked, armed individuals” broke into a home located on Mooney Road, near Fort Walton Beach, according to the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office. OCSO stated that the suspects struck one of the home’s residents and used pepper spray on him.

    A high school student from Ocala has been awarded a National Merit Scholarship that she will use to attend a college or university this fall. On Wednesday, the National Merit Scholarship Corporation announced this year’s National Merit $2,500 Scholarship winners, who were chosen from a pool of more than 15,000 finalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program. Among this year’s National Merit Scholarship winners is Ocala resident Angelina Kovalchuk.
