Iceland has invited staff and managers from Sainsbury's its team after its supermarket competitor announced major job cuts recently. Sainsbury's announced on Thursday (January 23) it would be cutting more than 3,000 jobs, while also revealing plans to shut its remaining 61 in-store cafes (subject to consultation). This means that the only Sainsbury's cafe in town, at Bridgemead in West Swindon, will be closing.

WH Smith's HQ in Swindon (Image: Google Maps) Swindon-based WH Smith staff were caught completely unaware by news of the company's 'secret' talks to sell off its high street arm. Sky News broke the news over the weekend that the British retailer, which is headquartered on Greenbridge Road, had been talking to prospective buyers about offloading its high-street stores. The high street division is currently comprised of 500 shops and employs about 5,000 people nationwide.
