An outpouring of grief filled the air Sunday afternoon as family and friends gathered to hold a vigil in honour of 21-year-old – a life taken too soon. Harsimrat Randhawa was killed by a stray bullet while she was waiting for a bus on Upper James Street Thursday night. At the corner of Upper James Street and South Bend Rd. East a large crowd gathered to remember a member of their family and community.

National Service Dogs has been doing an Easter egg hunt for over 27 years to raise funds for the organization. In Hamilton at Joe Sams Leisure Park was packed with furry friends and their people looking for treats. All money raised will go to the PTSD and autism programs that National Service Dogs runs. School nutrition programs in Niagara are struggling to keep up with increased demand and the high cost of groceries. One not-for-profit has had to scale back and put schools on a waitlist until resources become available. “The Ontario government gives $34 million across the entire province. The high level math equals to about 10 cents per student, per day,” says Jessica Simpson, program manager at Niagara Nutrition Partners. Niagara Nutrition Partners also uses money from the federal government.

Hamilton’s struggle with homelessness came to a head this past Friday as police and by-law officers moved to evict six people from encampments at Bay Front Park. CHCH News checked in with one person who found temporary shelter in a motel. Also, one member of that encampment has allegedly moved to Hutches’ property without permission. Melanie Manseiu has been without a permanent home for two years.
