Owned by a 99-year-old farming business, now entering its fifth generation, this 1987 Ford LTL 9000 still looks as good as the day it first hit the road – or possibly even better. First owned by Comet Container Transport, it was originally done up in the fleet’s signature blue and white. Comet was later taken over by TNT Equipment.

After one of its trucks lost its load of scrap metal on the M1 Pacific Motorway last Friday, NJ Ashton was quick to take full responsibility and assist in any way it could – now the company plans to host a community barbeque for those who were impacted. The incident caused traffic chaos, with millions of pieces of metal – around 800kg – scattered along a 25km route southbound on the M1, between Palmdale and the Mooney Mooney Bridge.

Long-time truckie Niell Graham captured this dashcam footage yesterday, while heading north through Farleigh – just north of Mackay – on the Bruce Highway. “I just don’t know what goes through some people’s heads to do stupid shit like that in front of heavy vehicles,” he told Big Rigs.

Since it began operating yesterday (April 29), the new $11 million inspection station on the Golden Highway has already carried out nine heavy vehicle checks – with one deemed to be non-compliant. When details first emerged about the new Ballimore Heavy Vehicle Safety Station – located about 5.5 kilometres east of Ballimore between Dubbo and Dunedoo, along the Golden Highway – the state and federal government had jointly committed $7 million.

The reunion will include a lunch, at 11am at the Parafield Gardens Community Club, located at 65 Shepherdson Road, Parafield Gardens, where attendees can get together and share their stories.

Timmy Mitton, 33, says he always knew he was destined for the transport industry. Recently he was named LBRCA’s 2025 Young Driver of the Year. “I was born and bred around trucks. From day dot, it was all I wanted to do and what I was keen on – anything with a steering wheel, anything that was burning diesel,” he told Big Rigs. Timmy’s parents Steve and Judy Mitton ran their own trucking company for many years, based in Grenfell, New South Wales.

The Australian War Memorial in Canberra is currently undertaking the largest relocation of military technology in its history. Its Anzac Hall has been undergoing a complete transformation since 2021, which will see an additional 6500 square metres of exhibition space added across two levels. Manager of Collection Logistics and Projects at the Australian War Memorial, Kassandra Hobbs, was responsible for the decant of Anzac Hall four years ago.
