23andMe said it has reached a deal to sell its assets to a nonprofit led by company co-founder Anne Wojcicki. Wojcicki’s TTAM Research Institute offered $305 million for substantially all of 23andMe’s assets, including its consumer genetics and research services, as well as the Lemonaid Health telehealth business. The final round of bidding took place on June 13 under the supervision of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Missouri.

Researchers from the Singapore-MIT Alliance for Research and Technology (SMART) and KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital (KKH) have developed a first-of-its-kind device that profiles newborns’ immune function in under 15 minutes using only a drop of blood. The device, called BiophysicaL Immune Profiling for Infants (BLIPI), provides clinicians with real-time data to help detect life-threatening inflammatory conditions, such as sepsis and necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC).

Great Point Partners has acquired a majority stake in Eutecma, a Germany-based developer of reusable and modular temperature-controlled packaging for pharmaceutical cold chain logistics. The investment will support Eutecma’s global expansion strategy, particularly in the U.S. market, and bolster its efforts to reduce emissions and waste in drug shipping and storage. Eutecma supplies passive cooling systems for pharmaceutical, medical and diagnostic applications.

SS Innovations has announced the first robotic cardiac surgery performed in the Western Hemisphere using its SSi Mantra 3 surgical robotic system. Cardiothoracic surgeon Dr. Juan Zuniga performed the procedure, a robotic atrial septal defect closure, on June 8 at Interhospital in Guayaquil, Ecuador. According to the company, the successful operation marks a milestone and reflects its push to expand globally with a lower-cost alternative to existing systems.

InspireMD today announced it received CE Mark approval for its CGuard Prime carotid stent system for the prevention of stroke. The Miami-based company said the next-generation carotid stent system was developed based on physician feedback and features improved deliverability and deployment. It builds on the original CGuard design, which uses a proprietary MicroNet mesh to reduce the risk of stroke by trapping embolic debris and preventing plaque prolapse.
