As I write this, I am watching the Detroit Lions game against the Dallas Cowboys with my son. Football is not my thing. That is an understatement considering it perpetuates misogyny and toxic masculinity. But my 15-year-old son loves it. Watching football with him and listening to him patiently (usually) explain to me what is happening is a way to spend time with him and learn more about his interests. My son is, well, very much a dude.

It’s almost midnight on a Sunday and I really, really wish that I was fast asleep but, alas, I am not. And it sucks. My battle with insomnia has been going on for years now. OK, so let me see if I have this right. Disgraced former president Donald Trump hates Taylor Swift, one of the country’s most beloved people. Swift, as I am sure you know, has endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris. So now Trump has declared publicly on Truth Social that he hates her. What if I told you that the U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that the Biden Administration’s rule protecting LGBTQ+ students from discrimination in schools must be enforced in all 50 states? That would be pretty incredible, wouldn’t it? And by incredible I mean not at all credible, because of course the extremist-packed Supreme Court did the exact opposite. Biden sought to expand protections under Title IX, which bans discrimination based on sex, to include gender identity and sexual orientation.

That’s what disgraced former president and convicted felon Donald Trump said about Democratic Party vice presidential candidate Tim Walz. So what does it mean to be “heavy into transgender,” something Trump has said more than once about Walz? Well, first it means that you recognize the humanity of transgender people, something that Republicans refuse to do.
