Speculation that Brian O'Connor would become the next head baseball coach at Mississippi State heated up on Thursday morning. Several media outlets reported that the Virginia head coach was expected to be the next leader of the Bulldogs and Kendall Rogers of DIBaseball wrote that O'Connor was the “clear-cut front runner” for the job in Starkville. There has been no official word coming from MSU and nothing is expected until the Bulldogs complete their season.

Siary, a former Starkville Academy player, emerged as a starter in the rotation for the Bulldogs and has followed Pico Kohn on the weekends. The best outing of the season for Siary came in the second game of a doubleheader against Ole Miss at Dudy Noble Field where he worked eight innings and did not give up a run on six hits with 15 strikeouts and no walks.

The Golden Eagles flirted with the idea of moving Allen to a starting role as the season began but found out that the bullpen was the place to be. It has turned out that Allen has had one of the best seasons for a relief pitcher in Southern Miss history. In a recent 2-1 win over Troy in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament, Allen pitched the final two innings and picked up his 12th save of the season.
