This year I want to re-read some of the classic books I read in my youth and have never re-visited, as well as some I've never gotten around to. I'm planning out my reading year here. I reserve the right to define ‘a classic’, but feel free to argue ... Classic horror with a powerful underlying message from a 19 year old Mary Shelley. I read this in a day, lying in a hammock in Western Australia when I was about 24. I remember the theme and the message but not the details.

I’ll admit I’m not much of a fan of seasons. Give me a hot summer all year round, and I’ll be happy. But since I can’t do anything to stop the cold from creeping under the windows, I may as well crank the heat up and get under the blankets with a good book. Light a candle, and I’m set. While the cold is what makes me passionately resent the later seasons, I have to admit that the changing leaves do soften my distaste a bit.

Mystery and romance are both bedrocks of fiction, but their combination gives rise to something that remains as of yet unbeaten in the entire history of literature. Every great tale has a bit of romance in it. Every memorable story takes advantage of suspense and mystery to keep the readers hooked. And the two of them together turn out to be entirely too irresistible to bookworms all over the world.
