    My dreams kept me in bed longer than usual, so I sleep in. The sun is shining in Paris, and I think of you. I’ll have a small breakfast and plan for a brisk walk to school. It’s still cold enough to wear my trench coat, my local-passing uniform. Donning a pink bow in my hair, I play coy and pet my flowers before I leave. I have today to finish a midterm for my art history course, so I camp out in a café before my classes and try to write. I’m distracted.

    The Israel-Palestine conflict — although I try to refrain from calling it a “conflict,” as “genocide” is a far more adequate term — is not a religious issue. If the roles were reversed, and it was an oppressive Muslim nation attacking a smaller, weaker Jewish nation, I would stand in solidarity with those oppressed Jewish peoples.

    Judah Adkins had an upbringing that sets him apart from many of his USC peers. He’s from Las Vegas and was raised by a single father. He was homeschooled his entire life. He’s Black and Hispanic and from a low-income background — but for the past two years, he’s found his community at the University of Southern California. A cinema and media studies major, Adkins enjoys both the academic and social prestige that the university boasts.
