After years of talks and plans, the Blue Line Corridor project in Prince George's County officially started construction on Wednesday. Elected county and state leaders broke ground on the developing Largo Civic Plaza, which is part of the first phase of the $400 million Blue Line Corridor project. The Civic Plaza in Largo is set to open in December. The project was the vision of U.S. Sen. Angela Alsobrooks when she was Prince George's county executive.

Maryland lawmakers ended the legislative session Monday night, approving a $67 billion budget that includes $1.6 billion in tax and fee increases, as well as cuts to erase a structural deficit. State legislators faced a $3.3 billion deficit and hundreds of millions in cuts from the Trump administration. The approved budget includes a 3% IT services tax and increases in marijuana and online sports betting taxes.

A hospital that has served D.C. residents for six decades will shut done soon as a new hospital opens about a mile away. United Medical Center in Southeast D.C. will close its doors for good April 15, the same day Cedar Hill Regional Medical Center GW Health opens. "It is bittersweet, because UMC has been such an important part of this community for such a long time," D.C. Deputy Chief Financial Officer Angell Jacobs said. United Medical stopped admitting new patients this week.

Some people incarcerated in Maryland's prisons may have a chance to have their sentences reduced through a bill being considered now. The Second Look Act would allow younger offenders who have served at least 20 years in prison to ask to judge to release them. The bill has sparked heated debate in Annapolis. "Second Look is not a get-out-of-jail free card. It is an assessment of the merit of the petition," one person said in testimony. "To me, it's just insane. Where's my second chance," another said.
