Tributes have poured in for a woman who tragically died after she was struck by a lorry in Mayo on Thursday morning. Chris O’Donnell, aged in her 60s, sadly lost her life in a collision involving a lorry while walking on the Rathbawn Road in Castlebar just before 10am. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the lorry was taken to hospital for treatment.

A Polish woman living in emergency accommodation has taken a discrimination case against Wexford County Council, challenging its requirement that she continues to look for a private rental property. Barbara Pisarek filed a complaint of discrimination, victimisation and harassment against the local authority with the Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) arising from her living circumstances in Gorey since 2023.

Nearly 600 dogs were euthanised at local authority pounds in 2023 – an increase of more than 75 percent compared to the previous year, newly released figures have revealed. The pound with the highest kill rate was in County Cork, where 92 dogs were put down, in addition to another 20 that were euthanised in Cork City. The next-highest number of euthanised dogs in 2023 was recorded in Limerick City and County, where 69 animals were put down compared to just five during 2022.

A member of An Garda Síochána was injured in a hit-and-run collision in Westmeath this morning when the driver of a vehicle that he had approached fled the scene. The incident occurred in the Heathfield area of Kinnegad as patrol gardaí were responding to an alert in relation to the vehicle on their automatic number-plate recognition system. As the garda approached the car to speak with the driver, it drove away, striking him as it left the scene.

Children as young as three are being allowed to watch films depicting rape, decapitation and murder in cinemas, according to complaints received by the Irish Film Classification Office (IFCO). Members of the public contacted IFCO twice in February to report that children aged three and four had attended the screening of two Indian films in Dublin and Limerick, which featured “gruesome violence and mass murder”.
