Darragh Mc DonaghThe Office of Public Works (OPW) has spent €2.5 million maintaining vacant properties over the past five-and-a-half years, new figures have revealed. The agency owns a total of 73 vacant properties, including 19 former Garda stations that have remained empty for more than a decade, and two decentralisation sites that have been vacant since 2007. A total of €2.5 million has been spent maintaining these sites and buildings since the beginning of 2020.

A month later, she was hurt again when a driver lowered the wheelchair ramp to bridge the gap to the kerb – but did so in front of a bus stop pole, and she walked directly into it. The complainant, Áine Wellard, said the first incident left her immobilised with back pain for some time, and she is still recovering from the injury almost two months later. It occurred on the morning of April 15 as she was travelling from Poolbeg Street to the bus stop near Tesco in Sandymount.

Dundalk FC’s former kitman is taking a case for unfair dismissal against the financially troubled League of Ireland club. Noel Walsh had worked for Dundalk since 2012 and was described as “the staple of the everyday and often the voice of reason” by the club’s head of football operations last year. After his employment ended in 2024, he filed separate complaints to the Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) alleging unfair dismissal and lodging a claim for redundancy.
