President Biden helped Christmas come early for 37 men on federal death row when he commuted their sentences to life without parole, many of them put there for the most heinous crimes. If anyone ever qualified for dying on the federal government’s timetable, it was Kaboni Savage of Philadelphia. Savage, a former boxer, was a major drug trafficker in Philadelphia from 1998 to 2004. He was condemned to die for the murders of 12 people, including four children.

The Federal Reserve cut a key interest rate Wednesday for the first time in more than four years of inflation fighting, reducing its benchmark rate by half a percentage point in a sign that the central bank is now more focused on a weakening job market than on high prices. The Fed lowered its benchmark rate to a range of 4.75% to 5%, ending a series of rate hikes during the Biden-Harris administration that raised interest rates to their highest level in 23 years.

Adam Kinzinger attacked his longtime foe, GOP nominee Donald Trump, as a “weak man” Thursday night in a speech to the Democratic National Convention. “Donald Trump is a weak man pretending to be strong,” said Mr. Kinzinger, who chose not to run for reelection in 2022 after voting to impeach Mr. Trump.
