Quebec drivers are heading to Ottawa to fill up their gas tanks and save money. Prices at the pump are noticeably lower on the Ontario side, and some Gatineau residents say the short drive is worth it. “It’s like 13, 14 cents cheaper,” said Nadia, a Quebec motorist. “We live very close to the bridge. The federal election race in Kanata is heating up and voters in the riding say the big issues range from affordability to what’s happening south of the border. This riding was once known as Kanata–Carleton, which stretched as far west as Renfrew. It has elected a Liberal in three elections. “I do like Mark Carney. The community of North Stormont is mourning the death of Amanda Maloney, a mother of two and business owner who was killed in a three-vehicle crash last Saturday. “When I found out what had happened, I was sick to my stomach,” said Cara Sabourin, a friend of Maloney’s for 10 years. “She’s a young mom. She had two amazing little girls, five and seven years old. And she was also a huge, huge part of this community,” Sabourin said.

For many students, flying is just something they experience from a passenger seat. But on Tuesday, a lucky group of Grade 6 students got a closer look at what it takes to become a pilot and some are already setting their sights to the skies. Austin Fortugno, a student from Meadowlands Public School, says his first time on a plane changed everything. “A couple years ago, I went on my first airplane, and it’s nothing like I’ve ever done before,” he said.
