We couldn't ask for a better way to start the month of July. Full of sun. Warm, but not too warm. No humidity. No storms. It was a little breezy, sure, but it was that wind that helped bring in delightful air from upstate New York and Canada. This pattern will last through Wednesday, then things start getting “summery” - just in time for Independence day. The humidity returns, heat builds and there is a chance for late-day storms that could interfere with some fireworks displays that night.

Wicked storms are expected to impact New Jersey Wednesday afternoon and evening. These storms could last through 2 a.m.NOW: The primary threat for the storms is damaging winds in excess of 60 mph. Hail and lots of lightning are also expected. Torrential downpours may cause flooding. Unfortunately, a tornado may also develop. TOMORROW: Early morning fog burns off. Partly cloudy skies turn sunny. Another warm day. Highs in the upper 80s. FRIDAY: Best day of the week.

A nasty line of weather is expected to hit New Jersey Wednesday afternoon and evening. Damaging winds, hail and lightning are likely. There is also the possibility of enough rotation for an isolated tornado. The National Weather Service has also issued a heat advisory for Wednesday. It is expected that by 10 a.m. or 11 a.m., it will issue a severe thunderstorm watch. TONIGHT: Building mugginess this evening as surface winds steer uncomfortable Carolina air back toward the state.

The heatwave is over - a seven-day period of heat and humidity has been broken. Monday’s highs were in the upper-70s and low-80s. A seasonable June afternoon was had by most in New Jersey. Gusty winds drag this seasonable, delightfully drier air mass from Canada through the region. I hope you had a chance to soak it in. Heat returns and so will the humidity making the middle of the week feel uncomfortably warm once again. TONIGHT: Clear and wonderful. Lows in the 50s and 60s. TUESDAY: Very warm.

HEAT ALERT: Scorching high temperatures remain in place across New Jersey•Jun 18, 2024, 10:42 AM•Updated 10 min agoALERT: The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory for New Jersey until 6 a.m. Thursday. An excessive heat watch is in effect through Sunday evening. And an air quality alert is in effect. The "Heat Miser" has his grips on New Jersey and it will be a while before more comfortable air returns. The weather pattern remains the same.
