The Black Bears hope for a better ending this year. “I think this is the best we’ve looked coming into the preseason,” said junior Hadley Farwell. “We’ve wanted (more success) all throughout the offseason. We worked through the summer, a little bit on our own.

Natalie Gilman, Skowhegan senior catcher/infielder: A KVAC Class A first-team selection as a junior, Gilman is one just three seniors on a young team that will be looking to improve early and quickly to contend in Class A North. She will play at the University of Maine at Augusta next year.

NEWPORT — For years, the Nokomis softball team was chasing a Class B championship and falling just short. This spring, the Wildcats are team being chase after beating York, 2-1, last season in the Class B title game for its first state championships. Nokomis, which finished 18-2 last season, exacted revenge after losing to York in the 2023 state final. Nokomis may be the favorite to start this season, but the Warriors are certainly not uptight.
