Will Edborg scored three goals, Ben White and Ben Knox scored two apiece, and Thornton prevailed, 8-5, for its fifth straight win. Apr. 26—As the golf season came to a close last year, Caleb Manuel had an opportunity — and plenty of doubts. The Topsham native had a chance to continue his fledgling professional career on the PGA Tour Americas, the development circuit for the Korn Ferry Tour, which promotes to the PGA Tour. But playing there meant going to a different part of the world, surrounding himself with another language, and traveling not from state to state but country to country.

Apr. 25—SACO — In its first game as the defending Class A state champion, the Cheverus softball team showcased the elements that led to its title. Addison DeRoche cracked a three-run home run and pitched five no-hit innings in a complete game, and one Cheverus hitter after another got a chance to shine in a season-opening 10-0 victory over Thornton Academy. Apr. 23—SOUTH PORTLAND — It was one of the key additions going into the softball season: Bella McBrady, the former Deering pitcher, had transferred to Gorham, which was in need of an ace after Amber Bretton's graduation. In her first chance Wednesday, McBrady showed her value. AdvertisementMcBrady struck out nine and added three RBI in leading Gorham to an opening 8-4 victory over South Portland.
