A Hartford, Connecticut man standing outside his disabled commercial vehicle was hit and fatally injured in a hit-and-run crash on Interstate 80 in Butler Twp. Friday afternoon, state police said. The name of the 53-year-old victim, who was hit by a second commercial vehicle, was not released pending notification of survivors. The incident occurred at 2:31 p.m. on the eastbound side of the interstate about three miles west of the Interstate 81 interchange, closing I-80 East for several hours.

What will result from Trump’s appeasement? Editor: In September 1938 the Sudetenland of Czechoslovakia was handed over to Hitler’s Germany to preserve world peace in the Munich Pact, with the major powers of Britain and France dictating the terms to Czechoslovakia, telling the Czechs they had no say in the matter. If you don’t know what happened after that, read your history books. Instead of peace in our time, Herr Hitler took the rest of Czechoslovakia, so much for his assurances.

Why would God choose Trump? Editor: A recent letter claimed Trump is “God’s chosen” (“Trump’s presidency is God’s will,” Feb. 8). I have to ask which God is the letter referring to? It certainly can’t be the God of Christianity. Christianity teaches that Jesus was the embodiment of God made man, ergo Jesus is God.

In 1892, a Baptist minister, Francis Bellamy wrote what was to become our Pledge Of Allegiance. Former Luzerne County Juvenile Court Judge Mark A. Ciavarella Jr. was convicted in 2011 for accepting $2.1 million from the builder and developer of a privately owned juvenile detention center that incarcerated minors who appeared in his court. Ciavarella, 74, is serving a 28-year sentence in a federal prison in Kentucky. Former Luzerne County President Judge Michael T. Conahan, who shared in the payments, pleaded guilty to racketeering conspiracy.
