Who pays to rename the gulf? Editor: What is it going to cost the American taxpayer to change the name Gulf of Mexico to Gulf of America? All the signs, maps, brochures, paperwork, pamphlets that have to be rewritten? I think DOGE should do their job and fire the guy that thought this up. Due process protects us allEditor: Remember when James Carville said, “It’s the economy, stupid?” Well, nowadays we need to tell the administration and Congress, “It’s the due process, stupid.” Nobody wants criminals who have been convicted (not just accused) of a serious crime (not just a single misdemeanor) to remain in the United States.

SNAP and Medicaid spending benefits wider economyEditor: In the coming weeks, Congress will attempt to reform two major programs that residents of the Poconos and Wyoming Valley rely upon — SNAP and Medicaid. Approximately 25% of our community is covered by Medicaid or CHIP, and about 19% of households participate in SNAP. SNAP and Medicaid dollars are provided to citizens in need, and ultimately, these dollars circulate back into the community and make Northeast PA richer.

A Hartford, Connecticut man standing outside his disabled commercial vehicle was hit and fatally injured in a hit-and-run crash on Interstate 80 in Butler Twp. Friday afternoon, state police said. The name of the 53-year-old victim, who was hit by a second commercial vehicle, was not released pending notification of survivors. The incident occurred at 2:31 p.m. on the eastbound side of the interstate about three miles west of the Interstate 81 interchange, closing I-80 East for several hours.
