Police and council chiefs have vowed to tackle the city's problem around youth violence. It comes after scores of incidents involving brawling youngsters - including crimes where victims have been ambushed. A gang of balaclava-clad men took three bikes belonging to youngsters at a Staffordshire beauty spot. Now detectives are appealing for witnesses over the incident at Baggeridge Country Park in the south of the county. The incident unfolded between 4.30pm and 5.30pm yesterday afternoon. Detectives have charged three men with manslaughter following the death of a woman who was struck by a van at a Staffordshire golf club. John McDonald, Johnny McDonald and Brett Delaney were all due before magistrates today following the death of 62-year-old Suzanne Cherry. Emergency services had descended on Aston Wood Golf Club in Shenstone on April 11 after a van reportedly involved in a police chase struck a pedestrian. Suzanne, of Aldridge, passed away on April 15 in hospital.

Police lined up on a cul-de-sac - after reports of a motorist being 'all over the road' on the M6. Officers say they had been called to the southbound stretch through Staffordshire. However the vehicle later failed to stop for officers from the force's road crime team. Cops say West Midlands Police were drafted in, on entering their patch, before it came to a stop. And an image uploaded by Staffordshire Police's road crime team shows at least six marked police cars on a residential road.

Two casualties were taken to hospital after a blaze at a house. Three fire engines, police and paramedics had been scrambled to the scene in Crewe where a cordon was set up. And firefighters sent to the Walthall Street fire say they found a blaze in the bedroom of the terrace property. The alarm had been raised at 12.41pm on April 19. Two fire engines from Crewe and an engine from Nantwich, along with the town's 'rapid response unit', were sent to the blaze.

Now her grieving sister Kelly Drummond says things could have been different if Kate had got her diagnosis soon. She had been 'fit and healthy' when in 2020 she began to experience bad back pain. Pope Francis has died at the age of 88. Today bell towers are ringing across Rome as the Vatican confirmed the passing of a man who spent his entire life 'dedicated to the service to the Church.' Cardinal Kevin Ferrell, the Vatican camerlengo, confirmed that the Pope passed away at around 7.30am. He had suffered health issues for several months after being admitted to the Gemelli hospital in Rome for treatment for bronchitis on February 14 which developed into double pneumonia.
