    Work has got underway to overhaul a Cheshire village pub that has lain empty for at least four years. Caging had gone up around Rode Heath's Royal Oak with the windows and doors boarded up. But the Sandbach Road venue is set for a fresh chapter after being snapped up. The team at Congleton's Brownlow Inn have confirmed they have taken it on - and want it to be a venue locals will be proud of. The pub has been shut since at least 2021. Work is now underway on transforming it.

And The Guest List is ready to open up in Leek - with a familiar face behind the venture. It comes after the one-time laundrette at the junction of West Street and Picton Street has been transformed. It will now play host outfits for mother of the bridge, 'occasion wear', wedding guest attire and prom dresses.

    Solar lighting is being installed along a three-mile stretch of a Stoke-on-Trent canal. Other changes on the Trent and Mersey Canal, between Stoke and Trentham, will see overgrown hedges cut back and 'significant' repairs to the towpath. Stoke-on-Trent City Council hopes the work will improve not only the appearance but the safety of the length of waterway.
