Saturday's print edition of the Times Colonist is a piece of history. This is the first time our newspaper has been printed off Vancouver Island. A streak that lasted for more than 166 years has been broken. We are using the plant in Vancouver that produces other major newspapers, including the Globe and Mail, the Vancouver Sun, the Province and the National Post.

Serious production problems at the Black Press plant in Ladysmith overnight mean it’s not likely you will get a print Times Colonist today — and if you do, it will probably not be complete. Starting Saturday, the Times Colonist will be printed in Vancouver, which we expect will allow us to provide more consistent, timely delivery. We have been printing at Black Press since October 2018, and for the most part, the service has been reliable.

We’ve been waiting for this weekend since, well, the first weekend in May last year. It’s time for the annual Times Colonist book sale, where you can find just about every book you’ve been looking for, and many more that you didn’t know about. In the words of Aaron Mauger, one of the keenest book sale volunteers, “if you can imagine it, there is a book about it.”Odds are, that book is waiting for you at the TC sale.
