For the fourth consecutive year the Rolla High School boys’ tennis squad has advanced as a doubles team to the Missouri Individual State Tournament. The doubles team of seniors Keaton Renaud and Joe Foster took first place in the Missouri Class 2 District 6 Individual Tournament, held Friday, May 2 at the Gillenwater Tennis Complex in Springfield. Foster, sidelined most of the season with a stress fracture in his foot, has only been playing the past two weeks.

The Rolla High boys’ golf squad posted a 292-377 dual meet victory over the Waynesville Tigers Friday, May 2 at Oak Meadow Country Club. Senior Easton Brown was the meet medalist, shooting two-over-par 72. Also for RHS, freshman Canter Bahr and sophomore Dawson Caldwell each shot 73; junior Chancen Jordan shot 74, and senior Chayton Jordan 75. The Bulldog junior varsity team shot 362.

After falling to Jefferson City High last week, the Rolla Bulldogs bounced back nicely Monday, May 5 by knocking off Columbia Battle 6-4 at FCNB Field. Rolla lost at home to Jefferson City 14-2 Friday, May 2. The Bulldogs head into the rest of this week with a 10-11 record. RHS was to play at Licking Tuesday, at Camdenton Thursday (4:30 p.m.) and at Columbia Hickman Saturday (10 a.m.). May 5 – RHS 6, Battle 4: The Battle Spartans took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning.

For the second time in the past three years the St. James High School boys’ golf team has captured the Four Rivers Conference championship. St. James won the FRC Tournament, held Monday, May 5 at Meramec Lakes Golf Course in St. Clair. In addition, the Tigers were undefeated in conference dual meets. In the league tourney Monday, St. James easily won by 20 strokes.

The Rolla High track squad saw strong competition in the weather-shortened Dale Collier Kirkwood Invitational, held Saturday, May 3 at Kirkwood. The 26-school meet was stopped early due to rainy weather. There were 11 girls’ events and nine boys’ events concluded before the meet was canceled. In the boys’ meet host Kirkwood won with 57 points while Parkway North was second with 28 and Fort Zumwalt North third with 26. Rolla was 11th with 13.

The St. Clair boys and the Union girls won the team championships of the Four Rivers Conference Meet, held Monday, May 5 at the St. James High School Track. In the boys’ meet the St. Clair Bulldogs won with 141.5 points while Hermann was a close second with 140 and Union third with 125. The host St. James Tigers were seventh with 45.5.Getting the St. James boys’ lone event victory was Aiden Boone, who captured the triple jump at 13.15 meters.

The St. James High baseball squad dropped a pair of Four Rivers Conference road games last week, falling at Hermann 14-6 Monday, April 28 and at St. Clair 6-3 Thursday, May 1. That left the Tigers 3-12 overall and 0-6 in FRC play. This week, with some make-up games mixed in, St. James was slated to play a full batch of road games – at Waynesville Monday, at Stoutland Tuesday, at Owensville Wednesday, at Linn Thursday and at Lebanon Friday.

The host St. James Lady Tigers dominated in winning the team championship while the Tiger boys finished second in the St. James Invitational, held Thursday, May 1 at the St. James Track. St. James won the 14-school girls’ meet with 143 points while Cuba was second with 99 and Iberia third with 91. Newburg was 11th with 16. In the boys’ meet Salem won with 103 points, clipping runner-up St. James, which had 100. Newburg was 10th with 28.5.The Lady Tigers won nine of the 18 events.

A successful baseball career was derailed for a couple of years by a series of injuries. Now, former St. James High School all-state athlete and Missouri S&T standout Andrew Branson is hoping a re-start back home in Phelps County is the beginning of a run of good health. Branson, a 2020 St. James High School graduate, has spent more than two years trying to get back on the diamond with the Pittsburg State Gorillas.

Despite an hour-long weather delay, the Rolla High School track team competed in a strong field at the Waynesville Invitational Friday, April 25. In the boys’ meet Rolla finished third in the 13-school field with 90 points. Washington won the team title with 99 points while Ozark was second with 98.5.In the girls’ meet the Lady Bulldogs finished sixth with 50 points. Ozark was the girls’ team winner with 182 points and Washington runner-up with 109.
