The Missouri S&T baseball team winning the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Tournament championship and the automatic national berth that went with it was a shocker. Unless you were paying close attention. The Miners had one of their finest seasons ever in 2025, advancing to the NCAA National Tournament for the third time in the tenure of head coach Todd DeGraffenreid, now the dean of all Miner Athletic Department head coaches.

All three Phelps County high school girls’ basketball teams will be doing a bit of rebuilding this season. Rolla will be adding several freshmen and sophomores to the mix, but has an all-state player and a strong senior running mate to build around. Both the St. James and Newburg girls’ basketball squads will also have a vastly different look from this past campaign. For the St. James Lady Tigers, that’s because they are losing a slew of seniors to graduation.

Chad Green got the call to return to Rolla. He was more than happy to accept. Green made a name in the local golf circles by turning the Missouri S&T golf team into a NCAA Division II power. And now he’s back to take over as Oak Meadow Country Club General Manager and Director of Golf. His first day on the job was May 4. Green first came to Rolla when he was hired by S&T to re-start the school’s men’s golf program. And he built the Miners into a national power in quick fashion.

This summer is giving a group of players a chance to play together for the first time ever for the Rolla High School girls’ basketball squad. And it’s been an extremely young group that will be trying to continue the run of Lady Bulldog excellence. RHS head coach Charley Parker will have more depth than he’s had in a couple of seasons. Senior Cooper Wiese of the Newburg High School baseball team was named to the All-Frisco League first team, it was recently announced. Wiese was the offensive leader for the Wolves, who finished 1-10 this spring. Senior Tanner Patterson of the Iberia High School baseball team was named the Frisco League Player of the Year. Defending Class 2 state champion Iberia and Licking each had 7-1 records in Frisco League play. When the two teams met April 11, Licking clipped Iberia 2-1.
BASEBALL: Tigers’ Hudson, Meurer are All-FRC, All-District 4

Senior Jesse Hudson and junior JV Meurer of the St. James High School baseball squad have been selected to both the All-Four Rivers Conference and the Class 4 All-District 4 Teams, it was recently announced. Both Hudson, a shortstop, and Meurer, as an outfielder, were named to the All-FRC First Team. Hudson was selected as an infielder and Meurer a pitcher on the all-district unit. Hudson was the Tigers’ leading hitter this season, batting .420 with 34 hits, 10 doubles, 10 RBI and 19 runs scored.

The Rolla High School track team brought home all-state hardware in three events from the Missouri Class 5 Track and Field Championships, held Friday and Saturday, May 30-31 at Adkins Stadium’s Licklider Track on the campus of Jefferson City High School. RHS seniors Chelsea Colench, Alessandra Obrist and Owen Sanchez all earned a trip to the state podium in their respective events over the weekend.

Five athletes in seven events from the Rolla High School track team have advanced to the Missouri Class 5 State Track and Field Championships through their respective performances at the Sectional 3 Meet, held Saturday, May 24 at Waynesville High School. The top four finishers in each event advanced from the sectional meet to the Class 5 State Championships, to be held Friday and Saturday, May 30-31 at Adkins Stadium on the campus of Jefferson City High School.
